The below Important Announcement from The Grand Master, HRH The Duke of Kent, was sent on 17th March 2020:

The Most Worshipful Grand Master

United Fraternity of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of England.

Message from the Provincial Grand Master of Leicestershire & Rutland Freemasons, Peter C. Kinder. 17th March 2020:

The latest announcement from the Most Worshipful Grand Master regarding the ongoing coronavirus outbreak is to suspend all Masonic meetings for a period of four months.

Please note, this applies to ALL Masonic meetings.

As the situation has been changing on a daily basis, and as the government has been responding and issuing guidance to the country, as we have in communication with our brethren, it has been quite difficult to keep you fully abreast of the latest information with regard to Lodge meetings. This announcement gives absolute clarity on our situation.

The country is facing a national emergency that requires every person and organisation to pull together to ensure that this period of uncertainty is managed as effectively and efficiently as possible. Freemasonry, whilst being extremely important to us all, is a sociable and fraternal pastime that, in itself, is not essential. We all have to appreciate the work behind the scenes that is being done on our behalf, and this will continue.

What is essential in the meantime is that we continue to look after our families, friends, and Brother Freemasons alike during these difficult times. Please keep in touch with each other by telephone and help where you can. Consider formal arrangements within your Lodges and Chapters to share the work of Almoners and Care Team members to support brethren and Lodge widows, particularly those who are alone or in any way vulnerable.

I recognise that you will no doubt have many questions about the impact of this cessation of our activities; how to manage, for example, missed installation ceremonies, and what to record in your minute books. Please understand that at the moment we don’t have all the answers to give you, but these will be forthcoming in due course. There will be busy times ahead when we resume ‘business as usual’, whenever this may be. As always, rest assured that I and the team here in the Provincial office will share further updates as soon as information is available. Please keep returning to this page of our Provincial website for updates as they happen, and also emails from the Provincial Grand Secretary.

Thank you for your continued support, we all look forward to this being over, where we can return to our Lodges and Masonic business.

Stay safe and well and I look forward to seeing you all very soon.

Yours sincerely and fraternally,

Peter C. Kinder

Provincial Grand Master, Leicestershire & Rutland

An update has been made by the Provincial Grand Master on October 2020 and follows:-

 Dear Brethren,

Once again I begin my message with the hope that you are all still keeping well and as always looking after those nearest and dearest to you. The latest Government rules and especially the Rule Of Six, in connection with the Covid-19 Pandemic continue to frustrate us all, especially as they continue to prevent us all enjoying in fullest measure, the pastime we so much love and enjoy, that of our Freemasonry.

I assure you, Brethren, that the health and welfare of all our Brethren have always been the first and foremost concern of the Provincial Executive ever since the beginning of the lockdown last March, all the advice and recommendations we have given to you over the seven months or so and those contained in this message are based on that and that only.

I am pleased to inform you that our three Past Provincial Grand Masters are all keeping safe and well, I have been in touch with them in the last week and they asked me to pass on their very best wishes to you all, Rt W Bro David has asked me particularly to thank all of you who so generously donated to the purchase of his portrait, which now hangs in its proper place in the Holmes Temple alongside his illustrious predecessors.

It continues to be the recommendation of the Provincial Craft and Royal Arch Executive that Lodges and Chapters do not meet to hold any Ceremonies until we are able to enjoy them in their ‘complete’ form with fully attended Festive Boards to follow.

We realise that this may not be what a number of you wish to hear, of course, if your Lodge or Chapter wishes to meet to hold modified ceremonies or hold a meeting to carry out any ‘urgent’ elections with six members including a Tyler or Janitor, that is your decision to make.

Such meetings must be held in a Covid-19 secure room and building, they must be properly tyled. A dispensation would be available for those that wish to meet to hold such meetings in almost any appropriate location, including an office {or even a private house, provided that the rule of six is complied with} where Covid-19 secure premises have a number of rooms it is subject to the limit of six at each meeting. As you are all aware Leicester City is still in total Lockdown so the FMH Leicester is closed for Masonic purposes for the foreseeable future.

It only remains for me to once again wish you all well, and to thank the Craft Executive and Comms team for their on-going continued hard work and support to me and the Province.

Take care and keep safe everyone.

Kindest Regards.

Yours sincerely & fraternally.
